The closer the New Year holidays are on the calendar, the more frequent the cases of illegal tree felling. This especially applies, of course, to fir trees and pines. However, such actions are punishable in Ukraine.
Fines for cutting down trees
In Kyiv, they began to treat coniferous trees in green areas to prevent incidents of vandalism before the New Year holidays. These substances are not dangerous for plants, but in a warm room they emit a nasty odor.
Treated coniferous trees are always marked with warning signs.
However, other penalties include fines, the amount of which depends on the size and location of the green space:
- in the forests – from 759 to 3,432 hryvnia
- within the city and other settlements – from 1,152 to 1,852 hryvnia
- within the territories and objects of the natural reserve fund – from 11,495 to 52,311 hryvnia

In Kyiv, until the New Year, holiday fairs with Christmas trees and toys will be open in the capital.
