President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree withdrawing from two agreements with Russia and Belarus concerning state border issues. The corresponding document was published on the website of the head of state.
We are talking about a memorandum on cooperation in protecting state borders with Moscow and Minsk, as well as an agreement between Ukraine and Russia on cooperation and interaction on border issues. The first contract was concluded on April 15, 1994 in Moscow, the second – on August 3, 1994 in Odessa.
After the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, Kyiv gradually ceases to participate in all international treaties with Moscow and Minsk, seeking to distance itself from them.
Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has terminated at least 10 different agreements with Russia and Belarus.
In particular, since the beginning of hostilities Kyiv:
1. severed diplomatic relations with Russia (February 2022);
2. withdrew from the agreement with Russia on the mutual recognition of diplomas (March 2022);
3. suspended the agreements with Russia on nuclear and radiation safety of 1996 and on the exchange of information and cooperation in the field of safety regulation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes of 2002 (June 2022);

11. withdrew from the agreement with Russia on the protection of investments, as well as from the agreement on social assistance to the families of the military who died in Afghanistan from 1998 and 1994 (April 2023).
In addition, on the eve of Victory Day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on celebrating May 9 as Europe Day.
“Many years ago, a tradition was established on our continent to celebrate Europe Day on May 9 in order to achieve the achieved peace and unity. Today, unity on our continent brings us closer to celebrating the first day of our peace. And it will be right to celebrate Europe Day together with all free Europe,” the head of state said in a statement.
The Ukrainian leader noted that this decision was made “in order to strengthen the unity of the peoples of Europe”, as well as “ensuring peace, security and stability on the European continent.”
Zelensky also submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada, according to which May 8 will be celebrated as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939-1945.
