The Mayor of London Refused to Give to Ukraine Cars Intended for Recycling

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has blocked a plan to send cars to Ukraine to be scrapped as part of the city’s Ulez program. The Telegraph writes about this.

In September, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, proposed donating some of the cars to Ukraine. According to him, this would have huge potential, and the vehicles could be used in various rescue and transport functions.

Khan wrote a response letter to Klitschko in early December. He refused it to the mayor of Kyiv, saying that such supplies would be contrary to the law, since the Ulez recycling program should benefit Londoners from an economic, social and environmental point of view.

Khan’s decision has already been criticized by the opposition Conservative Party and volunteer organizations involved in helping Ukraine.

Conservative candidate for the upcoming London mayoral elections in May, Susan Hall, called the refusal absurd, noting that assistance to Ukraine is in the interests of all Londoners and the world community. Sources close to her said that if elected, she would change the law so that Ukraine could receive cars.
